The first guest speaker, Kathy Ryan, was introduced. Kathy is the only democrat running for Collier County School Board from District 3. She began by passing out a bio on her background in education, which goes back 37 years. After explaining her reasons for running, Ms Ryan took question from the floor. She emphasized her experience with students with economic and language challenges, as well as concerns about home school and charter school controversies.
The second speaker Sandra McClinton, Regional Chairman of the Democratic Women's Club of Florida, was introduced. She invited anyone who is interested to attend the September convention of the DWCF . She went over the Amendments that appear on the ballot, as well as other issues of national and state concern. She then opened the floor up for questions and comments. Sandra concluded by holding up a surfboard and inviting everyone to join the "Blue Wave.”
Jane Schlechtweg reminded everyone to confirm their voter registration before the November 6 election. Voters can call the Registrar at 239 252 VOTE, or go to www.CollierVotes.com for information on their status.
There were additional comments from members regarding Governor Scott's denial of climate change in the interest of big business, as well as other concerns. DWCM endorses Nelson for senator. Other campaign ideas include a possible September debate between our candidate for District 106 State Representative, Sara McFadden, and the current Republican Rommel. Also, Mickey Gargan mentioned that David Holden, district 19 candidate for US Congress, is looking for campaign staging areas on Marco.
